“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind.” -Romans 12:2 (ESV)
I’ve often heard people say the mind is a battlefield, and there’s no doubt about it because I used to have a head full of lies that bothered and harassed me. One rejecting thought would turn into a big catastrophe filled with worst-case scenarios. And most of the time, I wouldn’t even put up a fight. It would take me under quickly, but just like a student sitting in a classroom, my mind had to learn to accept God’s way of thinking. You see, every thought that enters our mind has a mission – to either bring life or destroy life. That’s why it has to be reprogrammed just like a computer; that old junk has to get deleted and replaced with what God thinks.
Our mind is the center of all activity. It is the headquarters for spiritual warfare. We’re fighting to believe truth over lies, and those lies want to abuse and violate our security and trust in what God says. Those lies want to talk us out of believing in God’s promises and affect our relationships by leading us into destructive behavior. And if the lies gain access, they build a big fortress that blocks us from seeing the truth (2 Corinthians 10:4). This is nothing more than a trick to keep us trapped in a small place (John 10:10).
The Bible tells us to take our thoughts captive like prisoners of war and make them submit to Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5). The question is: will you let God’s Word rescue your mind (James 1:21)? Remember, you’re a slave to whatever controls you, so we must guard what we’re letting in our mind (2 Peter 2:19). We must recognize and label what’s trying to enter, so one lie doesn’t turn into a catastrophe. We must protect the mind of heaven. If a lie enters, expose it and confront it with the Word of Truth. And, if you really want to give the devil a headache, remind him that God’s Word is the final binding word. My friend, to have a supernatural life in Jesus, His perspective has to become superior. That’s why we need a whole new mindset. A Heavenly mindset.
